The State of Mediterranean Small-Scale Fishers
MED SEA ALLIANCE, GLOBAL FISHING WATCH
We filmed this short documentary across Cyprus, Spain and France, interviewing small-scale fishers to understand their experience with the EU Common Fisheries Policy and to document the necessity for better implementation and enforcement of the current legislation. This film combines policy and character-driven narrative to create a compelling portrait of fishers in the region.
Chasing Butterflies
KAVU
Every summer for the last 37 years, biologist Constantí Stefanescu has walked the same route in the Catalan mountains counting butterflies. Stefanescu and dozens of volunteers who have dedicated years to collecting data on these creatures have discovered a shocking drop in butterfly populations – including many that have disappeared – that mirrors the declines seen across the world. Chasing Butterflies dives into the world of butterfly conservation and the lengths that biologists, environmentalists and everyday people will go to protect these magical insects from extinction.
Climate Change in the
Ebro Delta
MONGABAY
One of Europe’s most important deltas, a vital wildlife sanctuary and economic engine, is facing many threats from climate change and water management. Rising sea levels and stronger storms are washing away the very sediment that constitutes the Ebro Delta and sending saltwater far inland. The government plan to bolster the delta relies heavily on trucking sediment to its exposed outer banks, but it’s a stop-gap measure until researchers can develop a more sustainable long-term solution.
